MOVING REHABILITATION INTO THE REALM OF VIRTUAL REALITY
Since March, we have been expanding our rehabilitation services at the ROYAL Spa Hotel to include exercise in virtual reality. The system is provided by VR Medical, a company that creates simple virtual reality headsets equipped with specially developed software. Their use is very simple and intuitive. It takes one click to enter a virtual reality where the patient controls everything with their hands. The cooperation gives us a unique chance to take advantage of modern technology that makes exercising easy, fun and painless for our patients.
THE FUTURE OF REHABILITATION LIES IN VIRTUAL REALITY
Exercising in a virtual environment opens up new possibilities for our patients. We are confident that it can significantly help in the treatment of the following diagnoses:
- orthopaedic problems after upper limb injury or surgery
- muscle atrophy
- functional neurological disorders
- functional movement disorders
- hemiparesis after stroke
- multiple sclerosis
- cerebral palsy
- oncological diseases
- Alzheimer's disease
EVERYONE KNOWS RIGHT AWAY WHAT TO DO
More than 30 applications, which can be alternated according to individual patient needs, are programmed so that the patient knows immediately what to do. The connection to a central system allows healthcare professionals to immediately diagnose, measure and evaluate results. This makes it easier to monitor and analyse the patient's progress and helps determine the ideal rehabilitation programme to follow. In the long term, it allows us to provide more care.
"People and their needs are at the heart of everything we do and we constantly try to improve their quality of life. Virtual reality in our application gives clinicians quick access to all relevant data, saving them time and resources,” explains Konstantin Novikov, founder of VR Medical.
INCREASED MOTIVATION AND HIGHER PAIN THRESHOLD
The main added value of virtual reality is that the patients are naturally motivated and stimulated to push their personal limits. Being drawn into an artificial world is a unique experience for patients of all ages. It allows them to break free from their limitations and overcome obstacles they would perceive as impassable in the real world.
